Bathroom wall tiling in Staple Hill from Dynamic Bathrooms. We board, tank and set out the walls properly before the first tile goes on, because that is what decides how the finished job looks.
Tiles only sit as flat as the wall behind them. In a shower area we use tile backer board and a tanking membrane rather than plasterboard alone. Old tiles usually come off so the background can be checked, and any soft or damp plaster gets cut back and made good.
More Information
Setting out means deciding where the full tiles go before any adhesive is mixed. Done well, the cuts land in corners and behind fittings rather than across the wall you look at from the door. Small slivers at the end of a run are what make tiling look rushed.
Grout colour changes the look of a wall as much as the tile does. Darker grout hides marks in a shower, lighter grout keeps a small room feeling open. Corners and the joint at the tray or bath take flexible silicone, never grout, because those junctions move.
Tiling is done in house at Dynamic Bathrooms rather than subbed out, which is why the tanking and the tiling get planned together. Twenty years of bathroom work means we are on tiles most weeks, and the same team that sets the walls out is the one that grouts and seals them.

STILL NOT SURE?
Two to three days for a standard bathroom, plus drying time before grouting. Boarding or tanking adds a day. Large format tiles take longer to cut and set, and mosaic borders slow things down further. We give you the schedule before we start.
Both work. Full height tiling everywhere is easier to wipe down and suits small rooms. Tiling the wet areas and painting the rest costs less and lets you change the colour later. What matters is that the shower and bath surrounds are tiled and tanked properly.
Larger tiles usually suit small rooms better, because fewer grout lines make the walls read as one surface. Very large formats need a flat wall to sit on, so the preparation matters more. We look at the walls and tell you what will lie flat before you buy.
